2015 Legislative Package
As Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, I have the privilege and opportunity of being a part of the change that helps to improve the lives of all Californians. Toward this end, I’ve introduced bills to ensure access to services in the Medi-Cal program (AB 366), improve the delivery of services in California’s Medi-Cal program (AB 72), strengthen the California Children’s Services Program (AB 187), increase consumer protections in medical billing (AB 533), require fair deductibles for families (AB 1305), direct tobacco tax revenues toward increasing patient quality of care (AB 1396), and establish comprehensive statewide regulation of medical cannabis (AB 34).
As the Co-Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color in California, I am grateful to be a part of the vitally important effort to find more pathways to success for our boys and men of color and all Californians. Included in my legislative package are bills to uncover health and education disparities in the API community (AB 176), expand the use of procedural justice by law enforcement agencies to increase community trust in our police departments (AB 1118), and expand the availability of breakfast in high-need schools (AB 1240).
In addition to these measures, I've also introduced bills to establish a special day of recognition for Filipino American farm labor leader and California hero Larry Itliong (AB 7), strengthen the financial health of Oakland Unified School District (AB 625), assist workers in building wealth through worker cooperatives (AB 816), expand opportunities for early childhood education (AB 833), prevent disability discrimination of judicial officers (AB 1028), and increase environmental justice grants for low-income communities and communities of color (AB 1062).
