Filipino American History Month and
4th Annual Larry Itliong Day Celebration!
Please join me on Saturday, October 27 in celebration of Larry Itliong Day in California. Larry Itliong was one of the greatest labor organizers and leaders in California history. He was a hero not only to the Filipino American community, but for all Californians and Americans who fought and continue to fight for socioeconomic and racial justice in our state and nation. Itliong played a vital role in the California Farmworker Movement. His work has inspired many for generations.
In addition to food and refreshments, we will show a screening of the documentary, Delano Manongs, offer Filipino cultural performances, and host an expert panel discussion highlighting and commemorating the inspirational life and legacy of Larry Itliong. Community partners will also be in attendance to share resources and information.
Through legislation I authored, Larry Itliong Day is now officially recognized each October 25th. In addition, the story of the Filipino contributions to the farmworker movement will now be included in our school curriculum so future generations will know this important story of our history.
