Bonta Mediation Results in Agreement Between Alameda Teachers and District
(SACRAMENTO, CA) – After more than 10 months and 2 dozen meetings between the Alameda Unified School District and Alameda Education Association, Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) was asked to mediate the impasse, resulting this week in a tentative agreement between the two parties.
Bonta made the following announcement after reaching the tentative deal:
"I sat down with the Alameda Education Association, representing the teachers and the Alameda Unified School District because I fundamentally believe in the collective bargaining process and I was confident that the teachers and the district could work out a deal together that was mutually agreeable," explained Bonta.
Assemblymember Bonta worked personally and intensively as the volunteer mediator for each of the parties over the past week. The negotiations included a marathon all-night session Monday night, continued conferences, and culminated with an agreement which was signed on Thursday night.
"Both parties worked extremely hard together and were open-minded and respectful. I congratulate the teachers and the district for arriving at a contract together," concluded Bonta.
Elected in 2012, Assemblymember Rob Bonta represents the 18th Assembly District, which includes Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro. Bonta is the Chair of the Public Employees, Retirement and Social Security Committee. He serves on the following Assembly Committees: Health, Transportation, Banking and Finance, and Elections and Redistricting.
