Bonta Encourages Hundreds of Thousands of District Residents to Enroll in Affordable, High Quality Health Care Options

(Oakland, CA) – On January 1, 2014, Californians will begin seeing the benefits of the Affordable Care Act as implementation in our state occurs through Covered California. But you shouldn't wait until then to sign up.

The enrollment period begins TODAY, October 1st and ends March 31st.

Here are some statistics that are particularly relevant to Assembly District 18 (AD 18):

  • In AD 18, which includes most of Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro, there are 153,322 individuals who are eligible for a subsidy for health care expenses (this makes up 33% of the district population).
  • Among those eligible, Covered California is targeting 36,797 and aiming to assist at least 16,865 individuals by 2014.
  • By 2017, an estimated 2.3 million Californians will be newly enrolled in a health plan through Covered California.
