Concert is sponsored by Stellium Music and will be held on September 17 in Oakland to raise awareness

(Oakland, CA)—On September 17, Assemblymember Bonta and Stellium Music will present Harm(onic) Reduction, a full day celebration and music festival in downtown Oakland to fight against human trafficking and exploitation. Harm(onic) Reduction’s initiative is focused on raising awareness and education about the commercial sexual exploitation of children, particularly in high-risk communities like Oakland.  Assemblymember Bonta is co-hosting the event with Stellium Music.

“I’ve been working hard to combat the human trafficking epidemic in California, as my own District is on the frontlines of this fight,” said Assemblymember Rob Bonta, legislator representing the cities of Oakland, Alameda and San Leandro. The San Francisco Bay Area in general, and Oakland in particular, are hard hit by the epidemic of human sex trafficking. The region has been named by the FBI as one of the top 13 hot spots in the nation for child sex trafficking and within our region.

"We have an obligation to do everything we can to protect our children and ensure justice. I am proud to support this innovative and creative way to shine a light on the exploitation of our children and engage the community in this fight,” explained Bonta.

Stellium is a collaboration of the indie music community to create social change through music by hosting events, offering exclusive tracks and merchandise, and raising awareness of the challenges facing at-risk youth. In addition to the live musical performances, there will be an immersive art presentation that depicts stories of survivors.

“Art transcends cultures and is an effective tool for carrying narratives and emotions, and making people across borders create deep human connections,” said Malaya Van Kleek, co-founder of Stellium Music. “Artists and social activists have the power to join together for a common cause. This is a gift and a challenge we share with our audience and artists: to use music and the arts to build a freer and more just world.”
