Bonta’s Key Immigration Bill Clears First Hurdle in Public Safety Committee

Tuesday, February 7, 2017

(Sacramento, CA) – Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) released the following statement regarding his immigration bill, AB 3, passing out of the Assembly Public Safety Committee:

“California’s values of inclusion, compassion and justice were on full display today at the State Capitol as AB 3 cleared its first legislative hurdle.  AB 3 will provide additional training for public defenders and set up regional centers around the state to ensure immigrants have proper legal representation and unnecessary deportations are avoided. This is a key piece of California’s fight against the reckless and hate-fueled Trump agenda.”

Next, the bill goes before the Assembly Human Services Committee on February 14th.

Assemblymember Rob Bonta represents the 18th Assembly District, which includes Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro and is the Assistant Majority Leader and Chair of the Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus.
