Statement on Cap-and-Trade Vote

Monday, July 17, 2017

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) issued the following statement on the passage of AB 398 and AB 617:

“At a time when the world has lost faith in this federal administration, it’s now more important than ever for California to show its leadership and commitment to the environment. We must continue to show our nation and the world what environmental leadership looks like.

“AB 398 and AB 617 will send a strong message while helping California reach its 2030 climate goals. They will promote clean air and clean energy investments, particularly in disadvantaged communities and enhance public health by reducing asthma. We will protect our children, our children’s children and generations of future Californians.

“These are strong bills. They aren’t perfect. There is no perfect bill.

“These bills are supported by many environmental groups like the Natural Resources Defense Council, League of Conservation Voters, NextGen Climate and the Environmental Defense Fund.

“I’m proud to make this commitment to continue California’s global leadership in fighting climate change.”

Assemblymember Rob Bonta represents the 18th Assembly District, which includes Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro and is the Assistant Majority Leader and Chair of the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Legislative Caucus.
