Bonta Co-Authors Package of Bills to Deliver Comprehensive Housing Relief to California Families
SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D- Oakland,) co-author of SB 2, SB 3 and SB 35, issued the following statement on today’s votes to combat California’s housing crisis:
“Today, we have taken a giant step forward to address the dire needs of California families who cannot afford a safe, reliable roof over their heads. Housing is not a partisan issue. It affects everyone. By passing SB 2, we have created an ongoing source of funding for the building of more affordable housing units throughout the state.
“In SB 3, California commits $4 billion dollars to construct more affordable housing and lower the skyrocketing cost of housing. It’s wrong when workers, like teachers and firefighters, cannot afford to live near their jobs. This translates into longer commutes, more pollution and more time spent away from loved ones.
“Passing SB 35 sends a strong message to cities that fail to build enough affordable housing. Every community has an obligation to do its fair share by approving and building low and moderate income housing.”
Assemblymember Rob Bonta represents the 18th Assembly District, which includes Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro and is the Assistant Majority Leader and Chair of the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Legislative Caucus.
