TRUTH Act Clears Assembly on Symbolic Day

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

(Sacramento) - As hundreds of immigrant rights activists and their families rallied at the State Capitol, Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) presented his historic Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Holds (TRUTH) Act (Assembly Bill 2792) to the California State Assembly. The TRUTH Act puts a stop to controversial deportation tactics used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that are tearing apart families and fueling distrust of law enforcement. “Today is the 20th Annual Immigrant Day at the State Capitol—more than 600 advocates travelled from across the state to make their voices heard,” Assemblymember Bonta told his colleagues. “I want each and every one of them to know that I hear their voices, and my colleagues in the Assembly hear their voices. And, today, we made our commitment to immigrant communities clear by passing the TRUTH Act.” AB 2792 was approved and sent to the Senate. Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.
