DMV Oakland Coliseum Office Temporarily Closed

AD18 DMV Update

On April 14, staff at the DMV Oakland Coliseum office reported a leaking water pipe in the ceiling that caused flooding in the facility. Upon investigation, DMV management discovered significant vandalism, including the theft of wiring, which rendered the HVAC system and parking lot lighting inoperable. The incident has been reported to law enforcement.

Out of concern for the health and safety of team members and customers, the DMV has temporarily closed the Oakland Coliseum office to the public and apologizes for the inconvenience. The office is expected to remain closed for approximately four to five months, but the department is working as quickly as possible to restore services at that location.

In the meantime, customers with scheduled drive tests have been redirected to the DMV office at 5300 Claremont Avenue in Oakland. For all other DMV appointments and transactions, individuals are encouraged to visit the Claremont office or the Hayward location at 150 Jackson Street.

The DMV also urges customers to utilize its online services and authorized service partners for tasks such as:

  • Driver’s license and ID renewals
  • Vehicle registration renewals
  • Address changes
  • Requesting replacement licenses
  • Ordering special interest or personalized plates
  • Viewing driver records
