It’s time to act.
Our community has a long history of taking bold actions and leading the charge to catalyze the change this country needs. With the constant stream of attacks on our values of democracy, equity, and basic decency, it’s clear that this is not a time for our community to back down but rather to show up. I’ve loved seeing how our community consistently stands up for one another: neighbors taking action to beautify our streets, small businesses investing in our people, and tireless advocates always fighting for clean air, water, and soil in our neighborhoods. If you’re interested in showing up for the town, consider getting involved with National Night Out on August 5, an annual outdoor event dedicated to bringing neighbors together.
I’m committed to bringing these kinds of actions to the halls of power in Sacramento as we all take action together to create the California we deserve. Thank you for standing with me.
Yours in Service,
Mia Bonta

WATCH: KCRA says our bill is “filling the maternity care gap”
It’s no secret that California is facing a growing crisis in maternity care. Families are facing fewer and fewer options as to where they can give birth, turning what should be the happiest moment of their lives into one of the most stressful. That’s why, at the beginning of this legislative session, I introduced AB 55 to improve access to birth centers by streamlining burdensome licensure requirements.
AB 55 is a crucial bill to ensure we have healthy babies and healthy parents. Do you support increasing the number of birth centers in our state? Weigh in on the bill HERE.

We’re building partnerships to ensure the 2026 FIFA World Cup brings fans, business, and tourism to the East Bay! The City of Alameda is taking action to implement a Transient Occupancy Tax, aiming to attract world-class talent to our island and benefit our local economy by hosting a training camp.
I was proud to support efforts in our state budget to ensure the games are successful and a victory for ALL in the East Bay. That included millions in security funding for the bay to ensure the games run smoothly, a restored Cap and Trade funding mechanism for the Bay’s flagship transit system – BART, and laid the groundwork to ensure BART, Caltrain, and AC Transit receive much-needed funding so commuters and fans alike can experience a quality transit experience.
I know many in our community, particularly those who rely on Covered California, are trying to figure out what the changes made in the Big Bad Bill will mean for their healthcare. Washington Republicans moved forward with this legislation knowing it would increase healthcare costs for families, forcing countless Americans to pay more for their healthcare, switch to a less comprehensive plan, or lose their insurance entirely.
As Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, I find this unacceptable and know it will only exacerbate the strain on our emergency rooms, keeping our communities sick and unable to access the care they need. This moment requires California to stand up to protect the care our constituents rely on, and I’m committed to doing just that.
