Dear Community,
I am reaching out with a heavy heart. I know I entered 2023 with hope and joy to have the pandemic behind us and move into a new year. And, only a few weeks into the year, we are mourning the loss of community members across the State of California due to gun violence. My sincerest condolences to the families in Monterey Park, Half Moon Bay, and East Oakland who are trying to make sense of the mass shootings that ripped through their community this week.
These senseless acts of gun violence in our community must end. As your Assemblymember, it is my utmost priority to work with my colleagues in California and in DC to eliminate the horrors of gun violence. Just last year I worked with the Department of Justice to launch the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, to help us ensure a better future for our community. I am asking all of us to say yes to life and no to guns.
I know these past few days have been challenging and heartbreaking, and the process of healing that comes after is equally as challenging, but I want you to know that you are not alone, I am with you. In this e-alert, my staff have prepared some resources for you. Please feel free to reach out if needed as well.
Yours in Service,
Mia Bonta
