Dear Friends,
Emergencies like the Keller Fire, which impacted our district earlier this month, can make us feel uneasy and question how we can be better prepared in the future. Thanks to the immediate response and coordinated efforts of Oakland’s Fire Department alongside our state partners at CalFIRE, California Office of Emergency Services, and neighboring city and county fire departments, this fire was quickly controlled. I am grateful for the quick response and swift coordination and for the unwavering service of each firefighter.
However, the effects of fire extend beyond the initial emergency, affecting essential aspects of our families and homeownership—such as insurance, safety, and the continuous need for emergency preparedness.
Below are some resources to help you navigate the aftermath of the Keller Fire and ensure you and your family are adequately prepared for unforeseen emergencies:
- Avoid home insurance scams following a disaster. Public Adjuster’s Licenses can be verified by calling the California Department of Insurance at (800) 927-4357 or visiting the Wildfire Resources webpage.
- If you suspect a natural gas or power line emergency, contact PG&E at (800) 660-6789 or visit PG&E’s webpage.
- Take proactive steps to prepare for wildfires and review CALFire’s ‘Go Bag’ Checklist.
- Sign up for Alameda County’s AC Alert to receive emergency alerts by visiting the AC Alert webpage.
- Residents concerned about their home insurance not being renewed can review the resources compiled by my office.
My office remains committed to helping you navigate any resources or individualized questions you may have. Please don’t hesitate to contact my District Office for any assistance or support with your questions.
Yours in Service,
