How should California stand up to Trump next?
The President has put California and our town of Oakland in the crosshairs. Where Trump leads with hate, the East Bay and California have stood firm as beacons of love, justice, and democracy. If you’ve been keeping up with our newsletter, you know we’ve been leading efforts to protect Californians’ healthcare, deliver legal support for our immigrant neighbors, ensure everyone has access to nutritious food, and so much more. We can’t stop now. Lives are at stake.
Now I want to hear from you, hear the pain on the ground, and work together to make a plan to stop it. The path to justice has always run through our community, and it will continue to do so. The East Bay is where progressive power thrives.
Yours in Service,
Mia Bonta

The City of Oakland has launched its Community-Led Traffic Safety (CLTS) Pilot Program! Community-Led Traffic Safety (CLTS) is a permitted program that enables community members to help make their streets safer through Curb Extensions, Daylighting, and Traffic Circles. This three-year pilot program, launched last month, will help our dedicated community meet the needs of our community despite limited City resources.

Team Bonta was out and about, meeting with neighbors and advocates for another incredible National Night Out, visiting more than 15 communities in Oakland, Alameda, and Emeryville on August 5. Would you like to invite Team Bonta to attend your community's next event or share how you’d like to see California move forward next?

Last month, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors made a significant step towards helping residents respond to the high cost of housing, by investing more than moving to dedicate $1.02 billion, approximately $170 million projected annually, to help homeless residents off the street, develop affordable housing, and support existing county programs and recipients hurt by cuts to federal funding.
The Board and the City of Hayward also made history by voting to approve a $1.1 million repayment to former residents of Russell City, a vibrant Black and Latino community, bought and bulldozed through eminent domain in the 1960s.

On August 5, California announced that the state had filed 37 lawsuits against the Trump administration, more than 40 amicus briefs supporting additional litigation, and secured 13 court orders blocking illegal attacks on immigrants, education, and public safety. The full impact is estimated to have ensured that more than $168 billion in pre-allocated Federal Funding has continued to flow into California, despite attempts from the Federal administration to intimidate, harass, and police Californians into surrendering their fundamental rights and values.
