Shattering Glass Ceilings: Celebrating Women’s History Month!

Dear Friends,

I am thrilled to kick off Women’s History Month this March in District 18 and across California! As the month unfolds, we are also excited to commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8 and Latina History Day on March 10. During these occasions, we reflect on the glass ceilings that women trailblazers have shattered over the years to be in positions of leadership and celebrate our collective strength.

Celebrating Community: Lunar New Year Events Across AD18

Dear Friends,

I’m incredibly proud to celebrate Lunar New Year across Assembly District 18. For many in the district, Lunar New Year marks the arrival of spring in the lunisolar calendar and is celebrated widely by communities with roots in China, South Korea, and Vietnam.

Martin Luther King Jr Day: Advancing Social Justice Together on January 15

Dear Friends,

As we begin a new year, let us join together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This moment serves as a reminder of the significance of acting in service to others and our environment, fostering spaces with values of equality and community stewardship for a society that is both just and inclusive, all principles that Dr. King tirelessly advocated for. As we reflect on Dr. King’s powerful force for positive change, let us channel the Martin Luther King Jr holiday into community action - “a day on, not a day off.”

Celebrating the New Year with New California Laws

Dear Friends, As we enjoy the holiday season, it is incredibly heartwarming to watch our communities come together to celebrate the diverse festivities across the district; from decorating the Christmas Tree in Jack London Square, to lighting the menorah in Alameda, as well as the upcoming events like Oakland Chinatown’s Lunar New Year Bazaar.

Dear Friends,

As the California legislature prepares for a new session, my team and I are sharing our work in the 2023 legislative session and reviewing the joys and challenges of the past year. In this spirit, I warmly invite you to attend my Legislative Town Hall. I will discuss the bills I introduced in the California Assembly, prioritizing equipping our students with the means to achieve, defending reproductive rights and our democratic process, and reinvesting the state’s wealth in underserved communities across District 18.

Breast Cancer and Health Resources

Dear Friends,

This October, communities across the country stand united in raising awareness for breast cancer. Accounting for 1 in 3 cancer cases every year, breast cancer is the most common cancer for women, with the majority found in women 50 years or older. The Center for Disease Control recommends that women over the age of 40 speak with their health care provider about when and how often they should have a screening completed.
