Are You Prepared for a Natural Disaster? Act Now and Make a Plan

Dear Friends,

September marks National Disaster Preparedness Month, an important reminder to take action to ensure that you and your family have the knowledge, tools, and confidence to respond in case of emergency. Recent tragic disasters in Maui and unprecedented weather events we saw in August in Southern California have only strengthened the need to share local emergency resources, harden our communities against natural disasters, and prioritize work to lower the severity of these devastating events.

Rooted in Unity: Celebrating Latinx Heritage Month

Dear Friends,

As the First Black Latina elected to the California State Assembly, I can attest first-hand that representation matters. That is why I am glad to be celebrating this year’s Latinx Heritage Month. In California, Latinx is the fastest-growing majority-minority population. Raised by Black and Puerto Rican parents, I have personally encountered spaces where I was the sole individual who looked like I did. This is precisely why I prioritize uplifting the voices of ethnic, racial, and linguistic minorities in the Assembly and the greater State of California.

Act Now to Re-enroll in Medi-Cal

Dear Friends,

Are you or a family member enrolled in Medi-Cal? If so, act now to ensure you maintain coverage for the following year.

Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid health insurance program for individuals with limited financial resources. It offers free or low-cost health care coverage to those eligible.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, annual Medi-Cal re-enrollment was paused in March 2020, allowing individuals to keep their healthcare coverage continuously. This period of continuous coverage expired on March 31, 2023.

Delivering Budget Wins to Community in the 18th Assembly District

Dear Friends,

It has been an honor to serve as your elected representative in Sacramento during my second term in the California State Legislature. On June 15th the Assembly and Senate sent the Governor a balanced budget in time to meet our constitutional obligation. On June 27th, having reached an agreement on several outstanding matters with the Governor, the Legislature sent the Governor additional follow-up budget items. I would like to highlight some of the budget wins that I fought hard for on behalf of our local cities and communities in this three-party agreement.
