Breaking Boundaries: Empowering Older Adults to Thrive

May is recognized as Older Americans Month, a time to celebrate and honor the contributions of older Americans to our society. As the Assemblymember representing district 18, I am proud to recognize the important role that older adults play in our community.

This year's theme, "Aging Unbound," highlights the importance of enjoying independence and fulfillment by paving our own paths as we age. It is a call to action for older Americans to take control of their lives and break free from stereotypes and limitations.

Reflecting on Our Work to Make Affordable Housing a Reality

Dear Community,

I am excited to celebrate Affordable Housing Month this May. Affordable Housing is one of the largest issues impacting communities in AD-18 and the entire state of California - far too many struggling to find fairly priced housing or keep up with rising costs. We have a crucial responsibility to shape our communities so that all can live, work and play in the East Bay.

New Opportunities this Spring for young people in AD-18

Dear Friend,

Spring has sprung and there’s much to do! I hope you have the opportunity to take time and enjoy the incredible weather and upcoming community gatherings across AD-18. I am delighted by the amazing work happening in the East Bay and at the Capitol in Sacramento. This spring, I am honored to have the opportunity to continue fighting for working families to help create a brighter California for our children.

My heart mourns in the wake of the recent tragedies.

Dear Community,

I am reaching out with a heavy heart. I know I entered 2023 with hope and joy to have the pandemic behind us and move into a new year. And, only a few weeks into the year, we are mourning the loss of community members across the State of California due to gun violence. My sincerest condolences to the families in Monterey Park, Half Moon Bay, and East Oakland who are trying to make sense of the mass shootings that ripped through their community this week.

Celebrating Legislative Wins and Budget Victories in Assembly District 18

Dear Friend,

It has been an honor to be your elected representative in Sacramento, completing my first year in the State Legislature. Many of you were able to join our virtual town hall in September, which highlighted some of the legislative and budget wins that I fought hard for on behalf of our local community. It was important for me to spend this first year uplifting our collective challenges and tackling them head-on, authoring over thirty bills.

Celebrating Women’s Cultural, Economic, and Educational Advancements in Women's History Month

Dear Friend,

Happy Women's History Month! It is my hope that we are all able to take some time out of our schedules to honor the women in our lives. We know that women have served as true advocates of progressive change for many generations. Women across the world have fought for the right to vote and to serve in the same capacity as their male counterparts as lawyers, healthcare professionals, elected officials and more. This work has helped advance many of these vocations forward, and we want to celebrate this achievement!

Getting things done in the new year!

Dear Friend,

It has been my privilege to represent the 18th Assembly District in Sacramento this first month of 2022! I’m honored that Speaker Anthony Rendon has appointed me Assistant Speaker pro-Tempore. I value this role as an opportunity to ensure legislative business runs smoothly, as we continue to tackle the impacts of the pandemic.

Happy New Year AD-18!

Dear Friend,

Happy New Year Assembly District 18 residents! I am so honored to be starting off 2022 with you as your AD-18 Assemblymember. This past year carried many challenges for everyone. Despite the turbulence, I’m so thankful to have gotten to see our community’s strength and resilience first-hand. As we enter this year, I’ll be working alongside you to help build a more safe and progressive future for our children and families.
